Orthosis and Prosthetics

Orthosis, defined as an orthopaedic device or appliance, plays a crucial role in supporting, aligning, preventing, or correcting deformities to enhance the function of movable body parts. Its purposes include lending stability to weak joints, correcting or maintaining alignment, and addressing skeletal deformities.

Types of orthosis

Types of orthosis include both upper limb and lower limb orthosis, with various subtypes under each category:

Lower Limb Orthosis

– Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO)
– Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis (KAFO)
– Knee Orthosis (KO)
– Hip Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis (HKAFO)
– Hip Orthosis (HO)

Upper Limb Orthosis

– Shoulder Stabilizer
– Tenodesis Splint
– Wrist Hand Orthosis
– Resting Hand splints etc.
– & More

An AFO, for example, is a plastic brace worn on the lower leg and foot. It supports the ankle, maintains proper foot and ankle alignment, and addresses conditions like foot drop. It’s commonly used to control joint alignment and motion for patients with conditions such as muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, hemiplegia, spinal cord injury, and more.

Orthotics is a specialized medical field dedicated to designing and applying orthosis. Our expert team includes orthotists who craft orthosis and splints based on patient measurements. They are readily available to create new orthosis and adjust existing ones to ensure optimal support and functionality for our patients.
